Here's my mocked up design for my site

the grey gradiented parts are where images will be as thumbnails

The top will be hidden and appear when rolled over the same for each of the drop down menus on the right.

The bottom part of the image with the black to white blocks is the colour selection tool for the background of the website so that the viewer can make looking at images easier on the eye by darkening the background to their preference

To make my website i need to resize all my work that i want to include.
This is because the web has a few communally accepted rules as far as designing a webiste goes.
For universal compatibility with monitors the website dimensions should be 1024 x 768 pixels
this means all of the navigation and images must fit within this.
i am going to resize all my images so that they all have a height of 500 pixels, ensuring they fit within the height restriction of web design.
The resolution of the images must be 72 pixels per inch, which is the right resolution for the average monitor. Unlike printing on paper which needs around 300 pixels per inch.
I will export all my images from vector based programs as Jpegs and compress them the least to maintain as much image quality as possible.

Rough website design ideas

 left and right through gallery top pannel hides from view when not hovered over, each button has its own hover over and darkens when hovered and text lightens.

right and left semi circles for navigating within the folder, left gray pane for website navigation(home, blog, contact, etc) top left pale gray panel says menu (hovering over this brings the darker gray box into view from the edge or fades in)
add another box at the top to navigate up a folder to look at other types of gallery
